The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau won the Excellence Award at the 2024 Cloud & IoT Innovation Awards for its “5G smart rail transportation and human-centered AI integration” project, applying IoT, cloud, and AI technologies to advance smart, sustainable public transportation in Kaohsiung.
Taoyuan City currently operates 13 drones across four fire brigades, flown by licensed firefighters, with thermal-imaging drones having proven valuable in mountain fires. The fire department is also planning a new volunteer drone squad to strengthen disaster response.
Taiwan High Speed Rail has completed drone pilot training and certification, with a smart drone bridge inspection and maintenance system scheduled to launch in the second half of next year. THSR says the drone-based inspection works like a precision screening test, saving 3 to 5 times the time compared with manual inspection.

Taichung City’s Environmental Protection Bureau deployed Taiwan’s first drone fitted with a FLIR infrared gas imaging system, capable of visualizing more than 400 types of volatile organic compounds.
